Many of these young travelers spent copious amounts of time in Italy. You can now sample a bit of the Grand Tour with this amazing escorted tour of Sorrento and Rome from Great Value Vacations.
Upon arriving in Rome you will board your luxury motorcoach and head south along the east coast towards the beautiful Sorrentine Peninsula and the beautiful Grand Hotel Flora. This wonderful 4-star hotel will be your home base for the next 4 nights, from which you can explore this region of great natural beauty. Located within walking distance of the beach and situated to offer stunning views of the Bay of Naples, you will feel your stress and cares melt away with each breath of the lemon-scented air.
During your 4 night stay you will have enjoy a mixture of escorted tours and free time that you can use to explore the sites around the Amalfi Coast or even take a day-trip the the Isle of Capri. Optional tours of Capri as well as a tour to local farms where you will see demonstrations of the making of mozzarella and sample the various offerings of the farm.
On day five you will leave for the Italian capital of Rome but before leaving the region you will visit the excavations of the ancient city of Pompeii. Here you will walk in the footsteps of the natives who lived in this city until that fateful day in 79AD. From here you will return north to Rome where you will spend 2 nights Hotel Melia Roma Aurelia Antica, a 4-star gem in the suburbs of Rome. From here you will tour the heart of La Dolce Vita and visit sites such as La Fontana de Trevi, The Spanish Steps, the Coliseum and Roman Forum. And while you will see much of the great architecture of the Eternal City, you will also tour the Vatican Museums and the magnificent Sistine Chapel, home to Michelangelo’s Ceiling and fresco of the Last Judgement over the altar.

DAY 1: ARRIVE IN ROME
Arrive in Rome. After clearing customs, your tour director will meet you in the arrivals hall. While you wait to begin your transfer, there are restaurant and coffee shop areas in the arrivals area of the airport, where you might wish to lounge before departing to Sorrento. Your tour director will be available to offer suggestions. Your transfer to Sorrento will depart shortly after 12:00pm.Once you arrive in Sorrento, the balance of the day is at leisure. Tonight, you enjoy dinner at the hotel.
DAY 2: A DAY IN POSITANO!!!
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Shortly afterwards, you depart for Positano, a wonderful part of the Amalfi Coast. The little town cascades down the mountainside and is filled with charm and beauty. Restaurants, stores, all stack up one behind the other overlooking the sea. The town extends upwards, and paths take you up through this hillside village. Everything from quaint local limoncello shops to fine art galleries greets exploring visitors. You will have free time for lunch on your own. Later, continue on to Amalfi, founded in the 9th century. Later, return to Sorrento.
DAY 3: Sorrento
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, followed by a full day at leisure in Sorrento to do some in depth exploring on your own. This would be an excellent time to visit the Isle of Capri, if you haven’t seen it before.
Day 4: Sorrento
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, followed by another full day at leisure in Sorrento, and visit the many sites and sounds of this beautiful Italian town.
DAY 5: SORRENTO POMPEII : ROME
After breakfast, you depart from Sorrento and travel to Pompeii, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Arriving in Pompeii, you have a guided visit of the best preserved Roman city ruins, including the Temples of Apollo, Jupiter and the Forum. Pompeii was settled as early as the 8th century BC and by 79 AD, it was a thriving commercial center. Vesuvius erupted and buried the city under a blanket of ash six meters deep. Over the centuries Pompeii was forgotten but in 1748 excavations were started and since 1911 all finds of furnishings and household utensils have been left where they were found, giving a fascinating insight into everyday life in 79 AD. Have a Pizza lunch in the great town of Pompeii. Afterwards, depart and head for Rome and overnight.
DAY 6: ROME VATICAN TOUR
Enjoy Breakfast. Today begins with the visit to the Vatican Museum and Michelangelo’s breathtaking Sistine Chapel. Stroll through St. Peter’s Square, passing Bernini’s famous colonnade, to visit St Peter’s Basilica, where you will view Michelangelo’s Pieta. The remainder of the day is at leisure to spend time in this wonderful city. Later, return to the hotel for a Farewell dinner and overnight.
DAY 7: ROME – USA
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight to the USA. “Arrivederci,” a nostalgic goodbye with a promise to return.
