DAY 1: ARRIVE IN DUBLIN
Welcome to Dublin! You will be met at the airport and transferred to your Dublin hotel, The Ballsbridge. This afternoon, on a guided tour, visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral and see the city’s Georgian Squares with their colorful doors. At Trinity College, admire the 8th century Book of Kells. Later, gather with your fellow travelers for a Welcome Dinner with wine. (WD)
DAY 2: DUBLIN / BALLINA
As you cross the Midlands, stop at Strokestown Park House, a grand 18th century estate with its original furnishings. Located in the estate’s former stables is the Irish Famine Museum, dedicated to the potato famine of the 1840s. Continue on to Ballina, where you will spend the night at the Downhill House Hotel. DAY 3: BALLINA / CONNEMARA
Travel to Connemara, Ireland’s historic western province, with its whitewashed cottages, mountains and rivers. Today’s highlight is a visit to Kylemore Abbey; strikingly situated on Lake Kylemore. This romantic 19th century mansion, now a Benedictine monastery, is a favorite of photographers and other artists. This evening, relax at your beautiful seaside hotel – the Connemara Coast Hotel. DAY 4: CONNEMARA / GALWAY / CLIFFS OF MOHER / KILLARNEY
Visit the impressive stone Galway Cathedral then stop in for morning coffee at Rathbaun Farm. Head to the rugged, spectacular Cliffs of Moher and stroll along the grassy trail, with endless views of the Atlantic. Continue across the Shannon Estuary, and on to lively Killarney, where you’ll spend the first of two nights at Killarney Towers. (B, MC, D)
DAY 5: RING OF KERRY EXCURSION
Travel the celebrated route that winds around the unrivaled Ring of Kerry. View scenic wonders and quaint towns, then stop at the beautiful Torc Waterfall; you’ll have the opportunity to join a leisurely guided hike. If you’d prefer to forgo this pleasant amble, the motor coach will return you to Killarney, where the remainder of your day is free. NOTE: The hike is approximately 3 miles, takes 2 hours and travels over wooded paths and lakeshore trails. While there are no mountains to climb, walkers need to be fit, and wear good walking shoes or boots, sunscreen and rain gear. (B)
DAY 6: KILLARNEY / BLARNEY / WATERFORD / KILKENNY
Your first stop today is Blarney Castle with a chance to kiss the famous Blarney Stone. Next is the House of Waterford Crystal, where you will see a myriad of sparkling treasures. Continue on to Kilkenny, a delightful town boasting quaint shops, medieval buildings and traditional pubs. Call in at Kytelers Inn – one of Ireland’s oldest, with a history dating back to 1263, where you’ll see the pub’s own Damien Walsh showcase the Irish Bodhran (one-sided drum), then perhaps join the band! Overnight at the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel. (B, D)
DAY 7: KILKENNY / DUBLIN
Your day starts with a visit to Kilkenny Castle, the 13th century Anglo-Norman stone castle that sits majestically over the River Nore. The castle’s basement houses the Butler Gallery, one of Ireland’s most important art galleries outside of Dublin. Once you return to Dublin, the remainder of your day is free for last minute shopping, a stroll along the city’s bustling streets, or a relaxing pint in a pub. Overnight at the Ballsbridge Hotel. (B)
