Each of the 33 bright and comfortable rooms feature complimentary Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, coffee and tea making facilities and minibars. Day 2. Reykjavik
Today's adventure starts with a drive through Borgarfjordur, a beloved nature resort area for Icelanders, to the edge of Langjokull Glacier. During the drive you'll get the chance to visit the Hraunfossar Waterfalls, a series of waterfalls formed by rivulets streaming over a distance of about a half mile out of a lava field. Nearby are the mightily churning hot springs of Deildartunguhver, considered the most powerful in Europe. They provide much of the hot water and geothermal energy to the area communities.
Head via unpaved tracks into the starkly beautiful highland interior of Iceland, crowned by the Langjokull Glacier. When you reach the glacier, it's time to board an 8-wheel glacier truck that will take you on an adventurous journey to the entrance of the ice tunnel. During the excursion on a guided walk within the glacier itself, you'll see colors of blue you never knew existed, and learn how glaciers hide the secrets of history.
After an approximately 50-minute visit within the glacier, it's time to head back to Reykjavik. If you are traveling between June and September, you´ll take the Kaldidalur highland track, including a stop at UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park, where you'll encounter places of historic significance and incredible natural scenery.
Into the Glacier: Langjokull Ice Tunnel
After nearly five years of study, planning, modelling and careful preparation by top engineers, and advice from world renowned geo-physicists with expert level knowledge of glaciers, you can now explore the Langjokull Ice Tunnel, located high on Europe’s second largest glacier!
The Langjokull Ice tunnel is the world’s first and biggest man made Ice Cap Glacier tunnel. This adventurous, once in a lifetime journey to the heart of an Ice Cap Glacier, starts with a bus ride to the area of Borgarfjordur. On the way to the edge of the glacier you'll stop and witness natural phenomena such as Deildartunguhver, the largest hot spring area in Europe, and Hraunfossar Waterfalls, a series of waterfalls formed by rivulets streaming over a distance of about 900 meters out of a lava field.
When you reach Langjokull glacier, it's time to board a monster 8 wheel glacier truck to reach the entrance of the ice cave. During the excursion within the glacier itself, you'll see colors of blue you never knew existed, and learn how glaciers hide the secrets of history. After an approximately 50 minute visit within the glacier, it'll time to head back to Reykjavik but this time through the Kaldidalur highland track, including a visit at Thingvellir National Park where you'll witness amazing scenery and breathtaking landscapes.
Day 3. Reykjavik
Enjoy a full, free day at leisure. Although the city of Reykjavik is a metropolis in every sense, it's been carefully developed and crafted around a number of easily accessible recreational areas and country parks.
If you have an interest in arts and culture, the city has a lot to offer in the way of prestigious cultural institutions, and has become well-known for its extensive music and performing arts scene.
The famous shopping streets of Laugarvegur and Skólavördustígur are home to beautiful boutiques and charming shops, while Kringlan provides more of a mall experience, with over 150 stores and restaurants under one roof.
