Known as the City of Canals, Venice and its vast waterway system make the city a unique travel destination. Whether you get around by gondola or on foot, you will find fantastic events occurring across the city as the summer begins to fade. Here are 8 great events to enjoy in Venice this September!
1. Venice International Art Exhibition
Throughout the entire month of September, you can take a journey through the contemporary art world at the 58th International Art Exhibition. This year, the theme of the collection is “May You Live in Interesting Times,” celebrating art’s ability to reflect and comment on the current social affairs of the day.

2. Secret Itineraries Tour - Doge’s Palace
Weave your way through various chambers in Doge’s Palace and discover where some of the most important Venecian political decisions were made on this special tour. With a guide by your side, you can take a peek into the civic duties of generations past as the history of the old Venice Republic comes to life in these rooms. This tour runs until September 30, which means you can learn about the history all month along!

3. The Nature of Arp
The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is home to very important art pieces from the early 20th century, all curated here in honor of famous art collector Peggy Guggenheim. The Nature of Arp is the newest exhibit at the museum and celebrates the work of Jean Arp, an artist whose work in abstraction made him a leader in the art form. Until September 2, explore over 70 pieces of his work in this exhibit that changes perspectives on shape.

4. Venice International Film Festival
The 76th Venice International Film Festival is coming to Venice from August 28th to September 7 as the event celebrated the cinematic genre. Creatives across the globe gather to celebrate the film industry and pay homage to its key players and legacy.

5. Regata Storica di Venezia
Watch gondolas and other boats slice through Venice’s famous canals during the Historial Regatta. The event is more than just a race, as parades of colorful boats with costumed riders celebrate the city’s past as a maritime leader in the Mediterranean Sea. Come see the historic regatta on September 1!
6. Jesolo International Dance and Music Festival
In the beachtown of Jesolo Lido, Venice, you can experience a wide variety of performances in this musical festival. Dance groups from across the globe flock to the festival to perform their craft and entertain audiences. Check out the elite dancers and musicians for yourself from September 14 - 17!

7. European Heritage Days
Venice is one of many cities to celebrate European Heritage Days, a weekend dedicated to promoting a city’s culture from September 21-22. This year, the Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia, has free admission for the entire weekend! This gives you a great opportunity to explore one of Venice’s greatest museums, home to a vast collection of pre-19th-century Venetian artwork.
