Best Things to Do in San Francisco

By Jessica Russo

Famous for its perfect t-shirt-and-jeans, "sunny and 75" weather, San Francisco is delightful for reasons far beyond its forecast. Vibrant yet serene, "San Fran" is a bay side beauty with surprises at the end of every (steep) street. From charming wharfs, to luxurious shopping, to funky neighborhoods that'll transport you back to the '60s, here are the best things to do in San Francisco.

Have dinner (and dessert) in Chinatown

San Francisco is home to the largest Chinatown outside of Asia. Take in the delicious smell of sizzling meats, veggies, and noodles as you wander through vibrant streets of authentic restaurants - and don't forget green tea ice cream for dessert.

Get the best views of the Golden Gate Bridge

Head to Battery East or Chrissy Field and feast your eyes on postcard-worthy views of the Golden Gate. For extra beauty, take a walk to the Palace of Fine Arts!

Take selfies with The Painted Ladies

Everywhere you look... Okay, even if you're not a huge "Full House" fan, these gorgeous homes create the quintessential San Fran scene.

Stroll around Fisherman's Wharf

Indulge in tasty take-out, or dine at one of the countless restaurants along Fisherman's Wharf. Then, head to Pier 39 to spot sea lions lounging on the docks. You'll also find a charming carousel, tons of shopping, and the famous Musical Stairs.

Pose with the Haight-Ashbury Sign

Stand at the center of San Francisco's hippie haven! Known as the birthplace of 1960s counterculture, the neighborhood of Haight-Ashbury is home to bookstores, record shops, and funky street art.

Take a cable car ride and stand

Hold onto your camera! Glide through San Francisco's steep, yet breathtaking streets on a famous cable car. For the best views, take the Powell-Hyde line down to Fisherman's Wharf, near Ghiradelli Square (and treat yourself to some chocolate).

Drive (or walk) down Lombard Street

Cue The Beatle's Long and Winding Road. Manicured with bright flowers and vibrant greenery, this steep, twisty-turvy street is unlike any city street you've seen before. Hint: If you drive, cover the brake.

Take a ferry ride to Sausalito

A ferry ride to the picturesque city of Sausalito is the perfect thing to do on a sunny day in San Fran. Not only is Sausalito a wonderful place to walk around, but the ferry ride through the bay will treat you to stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz!
