10 Cool Events Happening in Barcelona this December

Barcelona has some great winter events to get you out of the frosty weather and into the holiday spirit. Warm up at one of the many Jazz Festivals around the city! Bring the kids to meet the legendary Catalan character, Man of Noses! Watch a Magic Fountain Show! Here are 10 ways to bring some holiday cheer to your December journey through Barcelona.

1. Santa LlĂşcia Christmas Market

This 230-year-old Christmas Market is one of the biggest in Spain each year. There’s a lot to see - lights, Christmas trees, and vendors selling all kinds of Christmas goodies. Many stalls sell nativity figurines and locally made crafts. The market runs through December 23.

2. Magic Fountain

Watch a light and music show at this Magic Fountain! Shows begin at 8 PM and run Thursdays through Saturdays in December. These choreographed water shows are very popular, so be sure to arrive early to get a good view!

3. Festival de la Infancia

December 27-30, take a stroll around this fun exhibition for kids. There’s a lot for little ones to do - story-tellers, performers, and educators put on entertaining shows. Children’s apparel and accessories will be sold by vendors.

4. Vonn Dam Jazz Festival

For select dates in December, you can take in music from some of the world’s finest jazz musicians. There are solo jazz singers as well as bands and large orchestral groups. Concerts take place citywide, and there is a range of ticket prices to fit any budget.

5. Biocap Festival

This music extravaganza is touted as the best place to spend New Year’s Eve in Barcelona. The party goes for 12 hours straight! Dance all night this December 31. And at midnight, ring in the New Year by eating twelve grapes at midnight, a Spanish tradition.

6. Dart Festival 2019

November 28-December 1, watch a documentary at this movie and art festival. Dart Festival highlights documentaries about contemporary artists and historic art movements. Additionally, there will be talks and Q&A sessions.

7. Barcelona Games World

Come to this 3-day video game festival November 28-December 1. There are eSport competitions, new game exhibitions, and tournaments where contestants can win over $20k! There are also food carts, DJs, and cosplay events. Don’t miss out on one of the world’s biggest gaming events.

8. Barcelona San Silvestre 10k

If your New Year’s resolution is to exercise more, start on December 31 at the famous San Silvestre race! Over 8,000 people run this 10k each year. The race begins at 5:30 PM and winds through the well-lit streets of Barcelona.

9. Meet the Man of Noses

Meet L’Home del Nassos, one of the most famous characters in Catalan mythology. He has 365 noses on January 1, and loses one a day. On December 31, when he has just one big nose left, he walks around crowds where kids can take pictures with him. Sometimes toy noses are handed out as gifts!

10. Festival Milleni

Festival Milleni takes over Barcelona this winter, with concerts at venues like Razzmatazz and Palau de la MĂşsica. Legendary Spanish bands will be performing throughout December. From acoustic guitars sets to rock and roll, this is a music lover's dream.
