Venice, Italy is a collection of over 100 small islands connected by canals. The city is known for relaxing gondola rides, fresh pizza and gelato, and many churches. In February, there are lots of local events happening in Venice! Here are ten activities to make your trip through the Venitian islands unforgettable.
1. Venezia Sposi
Love is in the air at Venezia Sposi, an annual international wedding event. Vendors at the expo will be offering wedding planning services and advice. And couples can shop around for all the products needed to have a dream wedding. Stop by February 15-16.
2. Venice Carnival
February 8-25, partake in one of the country’s most fun events! Every year over 3 million people dress up in costume to parade around the city. Expect plenty of floats, live concerts, and the best street food in Italy.
3. Carnival Opera Gala Dinner
February 22, enjoy a night of unforgettable food and opera music! Head to the Hotel Gabrielli for finger food and wine. Then enjoy dinner with opera music between courses! After that, stop by the dessert buffet and then dance the night away.
4. Best Mask Contest
Put on a mask and join in the St. Mark’s Square parade! This colorful parade begins at 11 AM on select dates in February, as well as a kids parade on February 12. Masked competitors face off against one another onstage during this famous event.
5. Festa Veneziana on the Water
If you’re in Venice on February 9, you’ll get to watch a unique water parade! The floating parade sails from Punta della Dogana to Rio di Cannaregio. Munch on fresh pizza and sip local wine. There will be live music and plenty of food throughout the day.
6. Avanspettacolo Cabaret Dinner
Attend an international variety show set in the 18th century. The Carnival Grand Magic Show features singers, actors, and dancers ready to put on an unforgettable show. A four-course meal and wine are included in the ticket price. The dinner happens on select dates in February.
7. Mestre Carnival Street Show
February 23, 24, and 28, take a detour to Mestre. The Carnival is celebrated in the street with live music, dancing, and incredible performances! Each year thousands of people gather to dance in colorful costumes and celebrate in the streets.
8. Carnival of the Boys of Zelarino
Come to the 52nd annual Carnival of the Boys of Zelarino on February 25. Families will love this carnival for kids. There is a huge parade with floats, puppets, concerts, and much more!
9. Ballo Tiepolo
At the 23rd annual Ballo Tiepolo on February 20, guests can expect sumptuous food and classical music. The Palazzo Pisani Moretta welcomes costumed guests with aperitifs. Then you’ll enjoy dinner from a Michelin-star chef. After the meal, you’ll be blown away by a classical orchestra and waltzing late into the night.
10. Flight of the Angel
February 16, experience the Flight of the Angel! A girl who is chosen to be the Angel is flown on a wire from Saint Mark’s Campanile to Saint Mark’s Square. This is a great time to explore Saint Marks and enjoy the festivities like a local.
