Cancun, Mexico, has long been established as a prime vacation destination. It’s a coastal city, well-known for its pristine beaches. This November, there’s plenty of things to plan your trip around. For example, you can go on a golf cart scavenger hunt or join in the gorgeously colorful Holi Dance celebration. Read on to learn about 10 ways to have fun in the sun!
1. Holi Dance of Colours Cancún 2019
November 30, celebrate the Hindu tradition of Holi, a party that takes place in the streets of Cancun every year. It’s a celebration of good over evil and brings out the local community and tourists alike. The Festival of Colors takes place on the second day of Holi - you’ll throw water balloons, petals, or gulal (colored powder). Electro DJs will be playing the event as well. Don’t miss the festivities!
2. Baby Turtle Release
Through November, help baby turtles find their way to the water. This important activity is open to residents as well as tourists. Turtles lay eggs that hatch from June-November. Volunteers will guide the turtle babies safely to the ocean.

3. Golf Cart Scavenger Hunt
Explore Isla Mujeres, an island about an hour away from Cancun. Teams of four drive golf carts to different interesting spots. You’ll find delicious food and beverages along the way. The scavenger hunt takes about five hours - at the end of the day, the winner gets a prize!
4. Day of the Dead Celebrations
October 31-November 2, join Mexicans in honoring their deceased family members. In homes and in cemeteries, Mexicans honor their lives with flowers, pictures, and food. While this is traditionally a celebration for those who live there, tourists can head to restaurants to find deals, or to local cemeteries to pay respects.
5. Dia de la Revolucion
On November 20, celebrate the Mexican Revolution of 1910. There will be parades and celebrations all over Mexico. You may also hear speeches, find rodeos, or join in on other patriotic events. It’s a great day to wander the streets and join in the local festivities!

6. El Rey
This spot is often overlooked by vacationers, but this ancient Mayan city is too amazing to miss. El Rey is inside Cancun’s Hotel Zone, meaning it’s easily accessible by bus. There are ancient ruins to explore. It’s also near one of the nicest beaches in all Cancun. Explore this paradise while the November weather remains warm.

7. Annual Yacatán Bird Festival
If you’re looking to take a fun day trip, consider going to Merida! It’s about a 3-hour drive from Cancun. Attend the Annual Yucatán Bird Festival in late November. You can attend a bird watching session, informational workshops, and bird exhibits. It’s all to celebrate the important role that birds play in Yacatán’s environment.
8. Chichen Itza
This is one of the most popular attractions near Cancun. There are many ancient Mayan sites to tour, such as the Temple of Warriors, The Castle, or El Caracol (an ancient observatory). In November, take advantage of the warm tropical weather to explore one of the New Seven Wonders of the World!
9. Mayan Port City Ruins
This Mayan ruin site is simply breathtaking. If you want some stunning photos, this is the place to be. At the base of the cliff-top town are gorgeous beaches perfect for some November relaxation.
10. Expo Care&Ba
November 9-10, stop by this food expo to try some of Cancun’s most delicious cuisine. The event is free, and you can taste some of the finest food from Mexico and around the world.
