Dubrovnik - King's Landing

Think King's Landing is a complete land of make-believe? Think again! HBO's hit fantasy series, Game of Thrones, used the Croatian city of Dubrovnik as the setting for its majority. When you travel to Dubrovnik, you can see the Red Keep, the House of the Undying, the setting of the Purple Wedding, and much more.

Trsteno Arboretum near Dubrovnik - Palace Gardens of King's Landing

Remember when Sansa spilled the beans about King Joffrey, with some push from Lady Olenna, Queen of Thorns? What about when Lord Varys and Olenna became allies and had a chat while they strolled through the garden? Well guess what? This is that garden! Just about 20 minutes from Dubrovnik overlooking the Adriatic, Trsteno Arboretum is a lush garden with spectacular views - the perfect mini day trip.

Jesuits Staircase in Dubrovnik - Steps of the Great Sept of Baelor in King's Landing

It's hard to get Cersei's infamous "walk of shame" scene out of your mind. Well, it'll feel all too familiar when you actually walk the very steps she walked! Visit the Baroque Jesuit staircase, which leads up to the Church of St. Ignatius.

Diocletian's Palace in Split - Daenerys' Throne Room (also where dragons are kept!)

Croatia's second-largest city, Split, plays the set of many Daenerys scenes. This historic site built in the 3rd century is where Daenerys spends time in her throne room and trains her dragons. Remember the "kill the masters" scene in season four? Mhm.

Although this palace is over 1700-years-old, it was recently excavated in 1952, and is now visited by tourists daily. Walk through the eerie tunnels and basement rooms, where you'll feel like you're on GoT!

Fort Lovrijenac in Dubrovnik - Red Keep

Visiting Fort Lovrijenac? More like visiting Red Keep. Think back to season two: remember when Cersei speaks to Petyr Baelish? What about the scene in which the tournament was thrown in honor of King Joffrey's name day? Those scenes, and tons of others, were shot at Fort Lovrijenac!

Climb the 175 stone steps up to this imposing structure, which serves as the residence of the King of Andals and the First Men in the series!

Pile in Dubrovnik - Blackwater Bay

GoT fans and non-fans can come together and agree on this one thing: Pile is absolutely gorgeous. This breathtaking spot in the old town of Dubrovnik doubles for Blackwater Bay in the series! From this point, you can take in amazing views of Bokar and Lovrijenac Fort. Game of Thrones scenes will play out in your mind from every angle!

Jog your memory back to season three, when Shae and Sansa Stark watch and ships and Littlefinger discusses escape plans with Sansa at the end of the jetty. Oooh, that place! Yep.

Minceta Tower in Dubrovnik - House of the Undying

Up at the very highest point of Dubrovnik, you'll find magnificent Minceta Tower - oh, I mean the House of the Undying. Visit this imposing tower, known as the symbol of the city, where you'll see spectacular views of the red roofs below. Remember when Daenerys couldn't find the entrance? Ha.

Klis Fortress near Split - City of Meereen

Welcome to Meereen, the largest of the three Slaver's Bay cities, which Daenerys overthrows in season four! Klis Fortress is a peaceful, yet dramatic landscape of medieval stone walls and bright blue sea views, just about 20 minutes north of Split. Hike to the top, where Daenerys famously answers "injustice with justice."

Now that you know some of the Game of Thrones filming locations in Croatia, are you ready to visit them in person?
