How to Prepare for Travel Tips

By Soren Rivero

The lead up to going on a vacation is always exciting, albeit a bit stressful – did I remember to pack everything? Do I have all the right documents? So much is involved with going on a trip, and to help you out, here are some tips on how to better prepare for travel!

Traveling Internationally? Make Sure You Have the Right Documents

Most people know that you need your passport whenever traveling internationally, but did you know that some countries require your passport be valid at least six months past the dates of your trip? Some airlines will not allow passengers to board either if those requirements are not met. So along with having your passport when traveling internationally, also ensure that it is not within six months of expiring.

In addition to having your passport, also consider:

  • Travelers insurance
  • Emergency contact information
  • List of medication/allergies
  • Spare photo ID such as a driver’s license
  • Extra cash and debit cards

COVID-19 Protocols + Precautions

Travel policies regarding COVID-19 are still sometimes changing, so it's always best to check the destination's policies in advance. Also, always bring any proof of vaccination or recovery from COVID-19 if you have it.

Revamp Your Packing Plan

Packing... One of the most dreaded yet important parts of any travel plan. Despite its importance, so many of us save it for the last minute and end up forgetting to pack something. Make this the year you crush your packing plan and make it a habit for future trips!

Be Flexible in Your Schedule

Anything can happen these days that can cause delays in your flight or even total cancellations. Especially with COVID-19 constantly changing, it’s not impossible to see your destination close their borders. These situations aren’t the norm, so don’t worry too much about it. In the event that it does happen, just know that your trip will still happen in time and will be well worth the wait!

Take Advantage of Technology

Your smart phone is practically your ticket, GPS, itinerary, clock, and check-in spot all in one handheld device. Aside from that, there’s so much you can invest in to make your travel not only more efficient, but safer and hassle-free:

  • Portable chargers and power banks
  • Portable hotspots for Wi-Fi at any location
  • Streaming devices for on-the-go entertainment (EX: Google Chromecast)
  • Water purifier bottles
  • Smart-tracking luggage tags and suitcases

Remember to ENJOY Your Vacation

Don't be afraid to immerse yourself in a beautiful destination and allow yourself to sink into the moment. Remember: travel is supposed to be fun! So try new things, experiment with diverse foods, and challenge yourself like never before.
