Killarney National Park
One of the best things to do in Killarney is to visit its National Park. An outdoor enthusiast's playground, Ireland's oldest National Park is filled with amazing things to see and do.
Take a walk or cycle the many tracks and trails throughout the park, or explore more uniquely with a boat ride or traditional jaunting car. When you need a break from your activities, simply sit and enjoy the park's nature and beautiful surroundings.
Keep an eye out for birds, from falcons to water rails, snipes, woodcocks and beyond - over 140 different bird species have been recorded so far. Explore Muckross House and Gardens while you're there, one of the top tourist attractions in Ireland.
Pro Trip: Killarney National Park is huge, so it's impossible to see everything in one day. However, if you happen to visit the park more than once during your vacation, consider also exploring Ross Castle and the Muckross Alley Graveyard.
Ring of Kerry Drive
The Ring of Kerry is a spectacular scenic driving route in County Kerry. Key stops include the dramatic coastal views at the Skellig Experience Centre, the beautiful Torc Waterfall near Killarney National Park, and the Ladies View - named after Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting who were amazed by the panoramic views during their royal visit to Killarney in 1861.
Don't miss the chance to explore the historic Staigue Fort and stop off at the charming village of Sneem, which is a great resting spot to grab a bite to eat in between driving.
St. Mary's Cathedral
This beautiful Gothic-style Roman Catholic Church is one of Killarney's most significant architectural landmarks. The cathedral boasts beautiful stained glass lancet windows, a central tower, pipe organ, Tasmanian oak altar and pulpit, and a limestone baptismal font. It's a peaceful and worthwhile stop, especially on a rainy day.
Killarney Brewing & Distillery Company
Located just outside the main town center, Killarney Brewing & Distillery Company is Ireland's largest independently owned brewery and distillery. Take a guided tour to learn about the process of making the craft beers and spirits (whiskey, gin, and vodka), and then finish off with a tasting session.
If you aren't feeling a tour, simply head to the restaurant/taproom where you can indulge in delicious wood-fired pizza (and more), along with the brew or spirit of your choice.
