Top 10 Things to do in Canada

By Rachael Funk

Good gravy, there’s a lot to love about Canada! The poutine, the people, the way they say “oot and aboot.” It’s the perfect travel destination for every season, packed with fun for everyone. If you haven’t been yet, here are a few of our favorite experiences:

Banff

Lake Minnewanka

Nestled in the heart of Banff National Park, seeing Lake Minnewanka is a bucket-list sight you won’t want to miss. Treat yourself to a boat ride on the lake, picnic on the shore, hike through the park, and get to know the area’s Aboriginal folklore and geology.

Banff Gondola Ride

Explore the spectacular sights of the renowned mountain town of Banff. Whether you’re riding up in summer, winter, or somewhere in between, the views from the Banff Gondola are unforgettable. Plus, there are tons of fun activities to enjoy at the summit of Sulphur Mountain.

Jasper

The Rocky Mountaineer

Board the train in Jasper to see the most dazzling views of Canada's west. Rid through Kicking Horse Pass chug along the Fraser and Thompson Rivers through "cowboy country."

Columbia Icefields

This icefield sits high in the Rocky Mountains, astride the Continental Divide of the Americas. Touching both Banff National Park and Jasper National Park, this icefield forms one of the largest masses of ice south of the Arctic Circle. Take in the stunning scenery along the Icefields Parkway and walk the Athabasca Glacier. If you’re daring, set out on the Glacier Skywalk - a glass, cliff-edge walkway which juts nearly 100 feet out over the Sunwapta Canyon.

Vancouver

Vancouver Lookout

The Vancouver Lookout is one of the most iconic and recognizable landmarks in Vancouver. Soaring high above the heart of the city, the tower provides a 360-degree breathtaking bird’s eye view of one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Calgary

Downtown Calgary

Calgary is a blend of a brash frontier town and a lively urban center. Discover the downtown scene and get to know the city’s history, public art, sculptures, and restaurants.

Montreal

Old Port

The Old Port’s cobblestone streets and stately townhouses are only part of the reason people love this area so much. Hit the hills to see the Gothic basilicas, historic markets, and the whimsical attractions in between.

Toronto

Niagara Falls

Obviously.

Victoria

Butchart Gardens

Do yourself a favor and get yourself to The Butchart Gardens. This sunken garden is unlike any other public garden in the world. Featuring five different types of gardens, a menagerie carousel, and thousands of brilliant blooms, The Butchart Gardens are stunning every day of the year.

Whale Watching

Join a whale-watching excursion to cruise the bright blue waters of the San Juan and Gulf Islands, looking for whales, porpoises, seals, and eagles.
