King John’s Castle

King John's Castle is a 13th-century fortress with interactive exhibits, including touch screens, 3D models, and medieval games like archery and ring toss. St. Mary's Cathedral, located nearby, has six chapels, each with its own distinct features and history. The cathedral is home to beautifully carved misericords, which are unique in Ireland and the only surviving pre-Elizabethan carvings. You can also climb the towers for stunning panoramic views of Limerick City and the River Shannon.

Lough Gur

Open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, this bustling marketplace offers a diverse selection of goods, from fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and dairy to handcrafted items and delicious baked treats. While browsing is free, prices vary by vendor. Fridays also feature a special outdoor cafe atmosphere with the City Market, showcasing the region's finest food producers and artisans.

Shop around and indulge in delicacies like farmhouse cheeses, artisan meats, hearty breads, and so much more. Enjoy gourmet sandwiches, wraps, and pastries, or grab a cup of freshly brewed tea or coffee. From November through December, the Milk Market transforms into a festive Christmas Market, adding a touch of holiday magic to your shopping experience.


The Hunt Museum

Explore history and art at the Hunt Museum, which is home to a fascinating collection of artifacts collected by archaeologist John Hunt and his wife. Over years, they filled their home with treasures from Ireland and beyond, later gifting their collection to the Irish people, establishing the Hunt Museum.

The Hunt Museum houses a diverse collection of Irish and European art, including medieval metalwork, ceramics, and paintings. Some of the museum's highlights include an 8th-century Irish bronze cauldron, a 16th-century German astronomical clock, and works by Irish artists like Jack B. Yeats. The museum's collection spans from ancient Egyptian artifacts to modern art, offering a glimpse into centuries of human creativity.


St. Mary's Cathedral

This magnificent and historic landmark holds a special place in the city's heritage. The cathedral is one of the oldest buildings in Limerick, and allows you to take a step back in time.
