The resort, Hilton Tulum, was great. Staff were all very good, friendly and attentive. Food at dinner was good to very good at each of the restaurants we went to for lunch and dinner. The breakfast buffet had a good variety of items to appeal to everyone and was very satisfying.
The airline, Spirit Airlines, was abysmal. We were switched from direct flights both was to a connecting flight each way. Going down we had about a 30 minute delay on our 6 AM first flight then a 45 minute delay on our second leg. This was the good portion of our travels. The return was a nightmare. First leg was delayed about an hour causing us to miss our connecting flight. We were told the next available flight only had 2 seats open; we were a party of 4. The next flight wasn’t until 6 AM the next day. They booked us on that but would not provide a hotel or meal vouchers claiming the delay was due to weather ( not in Cancun!) so they weren’t responsible. We would up hanging in the airport. About 1 AM I got an email informing me that our 6 AM flight was cancelled. Checked online, all other Spirit flights were sold out. We found a Spirit employee, Amber, that was helpful and got us on an American flight and gave us food vouchers. We had paid for a checked bag but they didn’t pay American for a bag. Fortunately I do get a free bag on American, just have to try and get my money back from Spirit. Probably our first and last flights with them.
