Day 1. Welcome to Rome!
Arrive at the airport in Rome, pick up your rental car, and then enjoy a scenic drive to your hotel in Collazzone. With so many restaurants, cafes, and bars nearby, it's difficult to avoid the siren call of venturing out!
Check-in - Abbazia Collemedio Resort & Spa
Take a step back into Medieval Italian history for a unique experience like no other at the Abbazia Collemedio Resort & Spa. Set in the small town of Collazzone, Collepepe (Perugia) and tucked amidst rolling Umbrian hills in the green heart of Italy, this unique resort was once a Benedictine Abbey.
Restored from its historical use and converted into a modern hotel, the Abbazia Collemedio Resort & Spa offers a traditional Italian setting straight out of a travel guide. Now updated with modern convenience, tennis courts, a swimming pool, and a gym are available for use at your leisure.
Please note: The hotel is located approximately 25 minutes by car from Umbria International Airport (PEG), approximately one hour 50 minutes by car from Ciampino Airport (CIA), and approximately two hours by car from Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO).
Day 2. Collazzone
Start your morning in the kitchen with a cooking class where you get to make your own meal! Learn the secrets of Italian cuisine so you can bring them back home. Then the rest of the day is yours to wander about.
Consider taking a day trip to Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis, one of Italy's patron saints. You don't have to be religious to enjoy the beauty of this town. With a backdrop of rolling green hills, Assisi is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the world.
Cooking Class in Umbria
Kick off your afternoon with a cooking class, Umbrian style.
You'll get the chance to prepare typical Umbrian foods, which might include dishes like fresh pasta with the typical Umbrian sauce, scalloped potatoes, and a dessert. With the help of a resident chef, you'll make this lovely meal and get to eat it too!
Day 3. Collazzone
Visit the town that is the only exception to Umbria's rolling hills: Bevagna. This cobbled-street town sprawls out over a small plain. It remains a home to mosaics and the ruins of a temple and amphitheater, as well as offering beautiful stone squares and a lovely walk through its narrow streets.
In the evening, head back to your hotel and enjoy a lovely dinner!
Day 4. Collazzone
Take the day to really head out to the heart of the country with a wine tour and tasting that will let you understand what its like to get a real taste of local life. The rest of the day is yours to spend as you please!
Explore the green heart of Italy and indulge in the decadence of your surroundings. From truffle foraging and stunning vineyards, spend the day finding culinary excellence at your leisure.
Day 5. Collazzone
Explore Umbria's capital, Perugia. With it's unique structure, charming atmosphere, and beautiful architecture that is reminiscent of Old Italy and European fairy tales, the historic city offers winding streets to walk and many hills to climb.
With the whole day to explore, you could even take a little bit of a longer trip to Rome, which is only an hour and a half away and offers another plethora of activities and sights to see.
Day 6. Depart Rome
Pack your souvenirs, drop off your car, and say goodbye to your culinary vacation with new skills to try at home.
