Day 1. Welcome to Lisbon!
Touch down in the vibrant, seaside city of Lisbon! Settle into your hotel, treat yourself to some Bacalhau — a classic Lisbon dish featuring delicious salted dry codfish — and rest up for your first full day in Portugal's capital city.Â
The Holiday Inn Express Lisbon is a comfortable contemporary hotel in the heart of Lisbon. The hotel is a short walk to Marquês de Pombal Metro Station where you can easily catch a train or tour, and is also close to the bustling nightlife district Bairro Alto. While you're there, you can visit the nearby Chiado. St. George's Castle, a stunning historic castle with tons of shopping. To make this hotel more ideal, it's less than a 30 minute drive from Lisbon Airport, making it an easy destination for travel.
All of the rooms at the hotel offer air-conditioning and free WIFI, promising a comfortable stay. They provide a breakfast buffet everyday and have a lounge bar that's perfect for winding down after a day of sightseeing. You can walk through Liberdade Avenue nearby for restaurants and cafes that promise authentic Portuguese cuisine, as well as international dishes if that's more your taste.
Day 2. Lisbon
Time to explore! Start by visiting the Belém quarter to see a different side of Lisbon. Beautiful green parks decorated with plazas and tress and views of the Tagus Estuary Natural Reserve await you here. See the magnificent UNESCO World Heritage-listed Belém Tower (Torre de Belém) then tour the National Coach Museum (Museu Nacional dos Coches) to see incredible collections of horse-drawn carriages. Nature lover's must check out the incredible Lisbon Oceanarium located in Parque das Nações. Witness local wildlife like penguins, sharks, and puffer fish, or rent a pedalo to boat around the lagoon!
Alternatively, you can visit the museum which is dedicated to what Lisbon is known for — tiles. Check out the National Tile Museum to appreciate the history of tile making technologies and showcases of stunning art pieces dedicated to the craftsmanship.
Day 3. Lisbon
Explore Lisbon the fun way by taking Lisbon's famous Tram 28! You'll pass through cute neighborhoods like Baixa and Bairro Alto and see top attractions like St. George's Castle. Take a walk through the hilly, cobble-stoned streets of Alfama and sit in a quaint café admiring the stunning architecture.Â
While in Lisbon, it's also an absolute must to head about a half hour outside of the city to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site town of Sintra. This historic center is a civil parish known for its beautiful gardens, villas, and Romanticist architecture. You'll feel like you're inside of a fairytale as your walk around magnificent castles and magical plazas.
Day 4. Lisbon
Ride aboard the funicular railways to travel across Lisbon's seven hills, like the Santa Justa Elevator, Ascensor da Bica, and Ascensor do Lavra. Each of these magnificent tracks will transport you through Lisbon in unique adventurous ways.Â
For your last night in Lisbon, enjoy a night in the bustling neighborhood of Bairro Alto. Sit in a café nestled between narrow streets lined with colorful buildings while indulging in sweet pastries and listening to live music.
