Day 1. Welcome to Lima!
Welcome to Peru! Arrive in Lima then enjoy a transfer to your accommodation. Founded in 1535 by the Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizzaro, Lima is a modern metropolis filled with colonial richness. Also known as the “City of Kings,” Lima is divided into 43 districts, each with its own magic and magnetism.
The weather tends to be warm and humid throughout the year, with a thick fog called the “garua” during the winter months (May to December).
The capital is synonymous with gastronomy, so on your first night enjoy a typical Lima meal - ceviche and a pisco sour!

Day 2. Lima
Today, enjoy a 5-hour tour taking you to Lima's modern and historic highlights! Stroll through the Plaza de Armas, feel the cool ocean breeze at El Parque del Amor and see ancient art at the Larco Herrera Museum.
After the tour, pay a visit to the Church of Santo Domingo and its massive convent. Originally completed in the 16th century, this impressive pink church has a beautiful shady courtyard lined with baroque paintings and clad in vintage Spanish tiles.
Lima Colonial & Modern City Tour with San Francisco Monastery & Larco Herrera Museum (5 hours)
Embark on a city tour through old and new Lima! Begin at the Plaza de Armas with its colonial buildings like the Government Palace, the Municipality, the Palace of the Archbishop and the Cathedral, among others. All these buildings are gathered around the history-laden square.
Then visit San Francisco Monastery with its maze of tunnels and catacombs that served as a mass grave. After touring the historic city center, head to the modern districts of San Isidro and Miraflores. In San Isidro, stroll through the Olive Park (El Olivar) where old olive trees stand tall next to modern shopping centers. In Miraflores, visit the Park of Love (El Parque del Amor) from where you have a view over the cliffs and the Pacific.
Ending the tour, you will visit the fascinating Larco Herrera Museum. With more than 45,000 objects of pre-Columbian ceramics, textiles and gold and silver pieces, it houses one of the most impressive collections in Latin America. It is also known for its exhibition of erotic ceramics of the Mochica culture.
Day 3. Lima - Cusco
Transfer to Lima airport this morning for your flight to Cusco! South America's archaeological capital and oldest continuously inhabited city is now one of Peru’ most important and most frequented tourist destinations.
Nevertheless, it retains its vivid legacy as the hub of the Inca Empire: Quechua-speaking Inca descendants can still be found strolling the centuries-old stone-walled city streets. Cusco also boasts magnificent repositories of colonial art – fine examples can be found in the Cathedral and Museum of Archaeology.

Tour of Cusco and surrounding ruins (4 hours)
Go on a city tour of Cusco with visits to the most important landmarks of both Inca and Spanish Colonial times! Begin at Qoricancha, known as the Temple of the Sun and the most important temple of the Incas. A catholic monastery, Santo Domingo, was built over the Inca temple in 1572, and the fascinating contrast can still be seen today.
Continue to Cusco Cathedral, considered the best repository of colonial art from the Cusco School. Built over the palace of the Inca Wiracocha, it was considered the religious and political center of Cusco during the Inca era. After ooing and awing at the cathedral, walk through the Inca Street of Loreto, a fine sample of the old town and its remarkable Inca walls.
Leave the city to the outer parts of Cusco with important ruins of the Inca Empire. Between them, the most important is the archaeological park of the fortress-temple Saqsaywaman which shows precise zigzags of massive stone to which centuries could not do any harm.
Day 4. Cusco - Urubamba
Leave Cusco today for the Sacred Valley (Valle Sagrado). En route to your hotel in Urubamba, visit Awanakancha farm, Pisac market and the Ollantaytambo ruins.

Visit to Awanacancha, Pisac Market and ruins of Ollantaytambo (6 hours)
At Awanakancha farm, learn about the various types of camelids (llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, and guanacos) that live in the Andes region. After you get a chance to pet and take photos with the animals, local villagers will demonstrate the ancestral methods and techniques used to produce their signature textile art.
Continue along the Sacred Valley and reach Pisac, a beautiful town where Incan and Colonial influences have reached a perfect balance and created the unique way of life of the local inhabitants. Explore the famous Pisac artisan market where you can find extraordinarily fine jewelry and ceramic and textile craftwork.
In the afternoon, continue to Ollantaytambo. Visit a local house to get an impression of the daily life of the people living in this region, then head to the Ollantaytambo ruins. Admire the impressive fortress that sits above the small village. Ollantaytambo is one of the few places where the Spaniards lost a battle against the Incas. End the day with a visit to a traditional Chicheria to taste Peru's national drink of chicha, made of purple corn.Day 5. Urubamba - Aguas Calientes - Cusco
Transfer from your hotel to Ollantaytambo in Peru's Sacred Valley. Board the Vistadome train to Aguas Calientes, the town that serves as the base for exploring Machu Picchu. Ride past snow covered mountains, scenic river valley, small villages and diverse flora until you reach the train station at the foot of Machu Picchu.
Wind up a twisting road by shuttle bus and arrive at the most famous Inca ruins in the world where you will embark on a 2.5 hour tour.

Machu Picchu, the "lost city of the Incas," is not only one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, but also the biggest treasure of Peru’s past and the empire of the Incas. Undiscovered by the Spaniards and forgotten over centuries, it was in 1911 that the American scientist Hiram Bingham came upon it accidentally.
Still today, the ruins leave scientists with numerous questions and riddles on how it was built and for which purpose. Theories vary but one thing is for sure: Machu Picchu is one of the most impressive and exciting places in the world, sublime and majestic on top of the mountain and surrounded by impenetrable rainforest.
Enjoy a guided tour of the marvelous citadel, visiting the main plaza, the Temple of Three Windows, the circular tower, the sacred sun dial and the burial grounds!
Day 6. Cusco - Puno
Today, you will take a bus from Cusco to your next destination of Puno in the south. On the way, visit a small village famous for its lavish church, tour an Incan archaeological site, and have lunch in the town of Pukara.
Arrive in Puno, the jumping off point for visitors to Lake Titicaca. Puno is also known as Peru’s capital folklórica (folkloric capital) and its famous Virgen de la Candelaria parade is broadcast throughout the world.

En route from Cusco to Puno, stop at interesting points along the way. Your first stop is at the village of Oropesa, where you can taste a traditional Andean bread called “chuta" with a sweet anise flavor. Then visit Andahuaylillas church, considered the Sistine Chapel of the Americas because of the quality of the artwork found inside. This church must have been built over an important Inca building, possibly a "Waka" (shrine), as bases of the church were made with carved andesite belonging to religious Quechua architecture.
Continue to Checacupe where you will first visit the temple before going to the three bridges of this little town. See the bridges of different Peruvian eras crossing the river - the Incan Bridge, the Colonial Bridge and the Republican Bridge. Your next stop is the Raqchi ruins, the best and only surviving ruins with adobe walls still sitting on a base of Inca rock walls. This was a normal feature in Inca architecture as all tall buildings were built like this, but little survives today.
Continue on to Pucara which is famous for its pottery, especially the well-known Toritos de Pucara (Little Bulls of Pucara). Visit the Museo Litico de Pucara (Pucara Stone Museum), displaying a good little selection of anthropomorphic monoliths, zoomorphic sculptures, ceramics, and other objects from the Pucara pre-Inca Culture (original and replica pieces). Pucara church located in the main square is also worth a visit.
Day 7. Puno - La Paz
Say goodbye to Peru as you transfer to the Kasani border. You'll have assistance with migration formalities and then transfer to Copacabana Bay. Visit the religious town with its church with the shrine of the Black Virgin, and the main square.
Hop aboard a catamaran to Sun Island (Isla del Sol) on Lake Titicaca and Cocotoni before arriving in La Paz, Bolivia's exciting capital.

Board the eco-friendly catamaran cruise ship to the southern part of Sun Island (Isla del Sol), a highlight of Lake Titicaca. Visit Challa community, a quiet and agreeable place that preserves its cultural authenticity. Welcome and participate in an Aymara ceremony headed by a Kallawaya, an Andean healer.
Visit an indigenous house to see and understand the way of living of the local people and their culture. Visit the community museum with pre Columbian treasures (gold, pottery) found in the northern part of Sun Island.
Afterwards, enjoy a tour in a unique totora reed vessel. On your Catamaran cruise to Cocotoni, admire the spectacular views of snow capped mountains of the Royal Range of the Andes. Have lunch on board.
Day 8. La Paz
Today you will explore the highest administrative capital in the world, La Paz! Embark on a half-day city tour taking you to the fascinating Witches Market, Plaza Murillo, and Moon Valley (Valle de la Luna).
After the tour, head over to Calle Jaen, a steep, narrow cobblestone alley lined with brightly colored colonial houses, cafes, and museums. Pop into a restaurant to try typical Bolivian food like salteñas (baked empanadas).

Embark on a 4-hour tour of La Paz and Moon Valley! In La Paz, visit the famous Witch Market, a popular tourist destination where witches in dark hats sell dried llama fetuses for good luck. See the exterior of San Francisco Colonial Church and Plaza Murillo where the Cathedral, the Government Palace and the National Congress buildings are located. Continue to the residential neighborhoods of Obrajes, Calacoto and La Florida.
Explore Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) where you'll have the opportunity to walk and enjoy the beautiful lunar landscape. Board a cable car with magnificent views over La Paz!
Day 9. La Paz - Uyuni Salt Falt
Leave La Paz for Uyuni, a town founded in 1889 by Bolivian president Aniceto Arce. Most of its current 11,000 residents are employed in two major enterprises: government and mining (tourism is a close third). Uyuni has been generously nicknamed La hija predilecta de Bolivia (Bolivia's favorite daughter).
In Uyuni, visit the world's largest salt flats (Salar de Uyuni) covering over 4,000 square miles! The salt flats were formed as a result of transformations between several prehistoric lakes.

En route to your hotel in Uyuni, visit the train cemetery where you can observe a great number of antique steam locomotives and rail cars of the early railroad days built mainly in France and England.
You'll then depart to Colchani on the edge of the salt flats. Local people from Colchani extract salt from the flats using rudimentary tools such as picks, axes and shovels. The village also contains various salt treatment plants in addition to rustic workshops where artisan objects are made out of salt ground. While you're here, visit a rustic local salt plant!
Continue to the pyramids of salt and water eyes, which are holes on the surface of the salt plain. Inside these hotels, the brine (salt saturated water) located under the superficial crust can bubble up. Continue to Incahuasi Island, an ancient volcano famous for its gigantic cactus plants.
Cross the salt lake and arrive at the Galaxy Caves, underwater caves formed after the explosion of the volcano over the waters of Lago Miuchi (today’s Salar). Return to Colchani before arriving at your hotel in Uyuni.
Day 10. Uyuni
This morning, head to Ollague Volcano straddling the border between Bolivia and Northern Chile. You'll then visit three lagoons (lagunas) - Hedionda, Chiarkhota and Honda. See a sea of pink as these lagoons are filled with flamingos! Visit Siloli desert and Laguna Colorada before returning to Uyuni.

Leave early in the morning to Ollague lookout point and the lagoons Hedionda (the name of this lake in Spanish refers to the smell that are emitted from sulfurous gases on the surface), Chiarkhota and Honda. These mineral-rich lakes are filled with Andean, Chilean, and James flamingos and several are backed up by hills resembling banana split sundaes.
Day 11. Uyuni - La Paz
Say goodbye to Uyuni as you transfer to the airport for your flight back to La Paz. Upon arrival in La Paz, head to Tiwanacu, an ancient city built of adobe that was a former capital of a powerful pre-Hispanic empire that dominated a large area of the southern Andes and beyond.

Most visitors are aware of the impressive and mysterious Tiwanacu, where stone architecture remains standing. But few understand the duration and extent of this important culture´s influence throughout Bolivia.
Visit the magnificent holy temples like the Akapana Pyramid, the semi subterranean temple and the Kalasasaya, where you will visit the famous sun gate and the monoliths like Ponce and Fraile. Visit an interesting anthropological museum.
Day 12. La Paz
Your Peru-Bolivia adventure ends today. At the appropriate time, you'll be transferred to La Paz airport for your flight home.
