Valletta City Tour (half-day)
Discover the beauty and charm of the fortified city built by the Knights of St. John in 1566 - the capital of Malta, Valletta. The Order of St. John ruled over the islands for 268 years and left a unique cultural legacy of which Valletta is the prime example. Take in the beautiful views over the Grand Harbor from the Upper Barrakka Gardens before heading out to visit St. John's Co-Cathedral. Admire Flemish tapestries, the church museum, Caravaggio masterpieces in the Oratory, and the beautiful marble inlaid floors.
Going down Republic Street, walk past the Grand Master's Palace and the recently restored St. George's Square before enjoying an audio-visual show of Malta's history.
Day 3. Valletta
Set off to see the temples of Malta today! Venture through the center of the island to the temples located on the southwest. Enjoy the wonders these stops have to offer from hilltops overlooking the sea to underground complexes used for worship and burials.
Megalithic Temples of Malta & Hypogeum Tour (full day)
The prehistoric temples of Malta are collectively inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, with seven sets of temples in all. On this tour, you will visit the following sites: Hagar Qim & Mnajdra Temples. These temples are located on a hilltop overlooking the sea in the Southern Part of the island. The temples date back to around 3600 – 3200 BC and are inscribed as part of the “Megalithic Temples of Malta” in the World Heritage List.
Day 4. Valletta
Leave the main island of Malta for one of the larger of the 21 surrounding islands that make up Malta's archipelago. Explore Gozo, where rural hiking paths run along the country side, Ggantija Temple ruins are strewn about historical sites, beaches stretch for miles and scuba-diving can be found at multiple sites.
Gozo Tour including lunch (full-day)
Take a short, 20-minute ferry ride to Malta's sister island, Gozo - arriving in Mgarr Harbour, which immediately sets the pace for Gozo's unique atmosphere. Your guide will lead you around the Megalithic temples of Ggantija, the oldest free-standing monuments in the world, pre-dating the Pyramids of Egypt. This will be followed by visits to the medieval citadel in Victoria, and the fjord-like bay at Xlendi, and the site where the Azure Window once stood before its collapse at Dwejra. Fans of the wildly popular show, Game of Thrones, will enjoy a tour of the location where the scene of Daenerys and Drogo's wedding was shot in the first season. The area was transformed for the screen by covering the ground in mesh and covering it with sand to create a desert-like environment.
Gozo is well-known for its crafts, particularly handmade lace and knitted garments. You will also be impressed by the island's lush countryside, its serene atmosphere, and how different it is from the larger island of Malta.
