While you're here, don't miss a visit to Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop and the other specialty shops at the Church Street Marketplace.Â
Day 3. Burlington - Stowe
Today, you'll transition from Burlington to Stowe. The drive should only take about an hour, so you'll have plenty of time to enjoy in both towns.Â
For a taste of quintessential Vermont, plan a visit to Smugglers' Notch State Park before checking into your accommodation in Stowe. "The Notch" is lined with 1,000-foot cliffs full of caverns and caves. Its long history is filled with stories of danger, adventure, and freedom.
A Tip For Your Trip: Note: The road through Smugglers' Notch is closed in the winter.
Check-in - Trapp Family Lodge, Stowe
Experience Vermont at the Trapp Family Lodge! (Yes, that Trapp family) After touring the US as the Trapp Family Singers in the 1940s, the Trapp family settled in Stowe, Vermont and opened this rustic family lodge in the '50s. In 1980 the original lodge suffered a devastating fire and was rebuilt to become the 96-room lodge that it is today. Sitting across 2,600 acres of land, the lodge is owned and operated by the von Trapp family.Â
This four-star hotel offers four dining options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including The Bierhall where you can try some of the freshly brewed von Trapp Brewing lagers or some local ciders. Grab breakfast at Kaffeehaus and try The Lounge if you want to slow it down for dinner. If you're looking for a night of good food and live music, check out The Dining Room. There's adventure waiting all around the lodge from skiing trails and hiking paths to local wineries. You also have the opportunity to indulge at the lodge's on-site Wine Cellar and von Trapp Brewery as well. Guest rooms are spacious and cozy, complete with amenities like a flat screen TV, coffee maker, mini fridge, a private bathroom, plush robes, and air conditioning. Additionally, most rooms have a mountain view and either a private or shared balcony.Â
If you're looking for things to do outside of the lodge, there are a number of activities available nearby. If you want to marvel at Vermont's natural beauty, Chase Park and Mount Mansfield are both within a fifteen minute drive from the lodge. If you're looking for something more on the historical side, Vermont Ski Museum and Stowe Village Historic District are both within a ten minute drive.
Day 4. Stowe
Though Stowe is most famous as a world-class ski destination in the winter, there is a nearly endless list of attractions and activities to enjoy year-round.Â
Start your day in the 200-year-old Stowe Village Historic District. Then, set off on the Stowe Recreation Path for scenic views along a paved trail. As you go, stop off at any of the restaurants, shops, swimming holes, or picnic areas located along the way.Â
Day 5. Stowe
Take on Vermont's highest peak with a trip to Mount Mansfield. A distinct landmark for both hiking and skiing fanatics, this ridge line is a draw for visitors in any weather. To summit the mountain you can take the Auto Toll Road, which was originally completed in 1870 for horse-drawn carriages, or you can take the breathtaking Gondola SkyRide to the top.Â
Day 6. Depart Vermont
It's time to head back to the airport, return your rental car, and board your flight home.Â
