Day 2. Nairobi - Masai Mara National Reserve
Today, depart to Kenya's best known wildlife reserve, Masai Mara. Spend the afternoon on a game drive through grassy savannah, observing some of the 95 species of mammals, reptiles, and amphibians that call it home. During the months of July to October, more than one million wildebeests can be seen moving in, which is sure a sight to behold.Â
Then check into your first lodge located right on the reserve and hear the sounds of the wild as you drift off to sleep.Â
Check-in - Masai Mara Sopa Lodge
Immerse yourself in the culture of Kenya at the Masai Mara Sopa Lodge that marries stylish comfort to authentic cultural tradition. Step into the lodge and notice its cathedral-high ceilings, warm colors, wooden accents, and traditional African decor. Located on the slopes of the Oloongams Hills, its rich surrounding landscape is covered in fauna, from huge cacti to sweet smelling jasmine flowers.
After a day of adventuring through the bush, cozy up around the massive central fireplace in the lounge and admire the beautiful murals that coat the walls. Enjoy a refreshing drink on the outdoor veranda, take a pleasant swim in the large outdoor swimming pool, or relax with complimentary afternoon tea or coffee. Share laughs over a board game, embark on a nature walk, or take a look around the interesting handicraft market. When you work up an appetite, head to the on-site restaurant and indulge in mouthwatering local cuisine. Nice night? Why not dine outside? After dinner, return to your spacious, well-decorated room and sprawl out on your large, comfortable bed. Rest up for your next day of wild adventure!
Day 3. Masai Mara National Reserve
Continue exploring the Masai Mara National Reserve. With luck, you might even see all of the Big 5: leopards, lions, elephants, buffalo and rhinos! These animals are among the fiercest predators in the African wild.Â
Day 4. Masai Mara National Reserve - Lake Naivasha
After breakfast, continue your safari to Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley. This freshwater lake bordered by thick papyrus trees is one of the primary watering holes for the surrounding wildlife. The lake and its surroundings, rich in natural bounty, fertile soils, and water supply, make this one of Kenya’s prime agricultural regions.Â
See if you can spot hippos sleeping the day out in the shallow waters and giraffes wandering among the acacia trees.Â
Check-in - Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge
Set in one hundred and fifty acres of grassland studded with Acacia bushes and trees, the resort is not only home to our resident giraffe, waterbuck and both Vervet and Colobus monkeys, but it is also a night stop for the hippos when they leave the lake every night to come and trim the grass on our expansive lawns. With Sopa's traditional and conscientious care for the environment, we carefully positioned all the buildings on our property so we did not have to fell any of the many trees there. As a result of this, we had to come up with a radically innovative and artistic design for the main public area building which now snakes its way between the trees with long and graceful curves. The lodge features two swimming pools with a children's section and a pool complex with its bar, snack kitchen, pizzeria and health spa; tennis court and two conference halls with their four differently sized meeting areas.
Day 5. Lake Naivasha
Begin today with a boat trip on the lake, subject to water levels. Then travel to Lake Nakuru for lunch and an afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. This park is known as the place where millions of flamingos and pelicans congregate on the lake during peak season. It also has Kenya's largest population of rhinos!
Day 6. Lake Naivasha - Amboseli National Park
From Lake Nakuru, depart for Nairobi and dine at the renowned Carnivore restaurant. After lunch, continue on to Amboseli National Park for a game drive. With the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro in the back drop, Amboseli National Park contains five main wildlife habitats: open plains, acacia woodland, rocky thorn bush country, swamps, and marshland.
Check-in - Amboseli Sopa Lodge
Immerse yourself in the culture and tradition of East Africa at the charming Amboseli Sopa Lodge. Get up close and personal with elephants, giraffe, and other members of the "big five" while relaxing at this luxurious sanctuary. Nestled in 200 acres of wooded Maasai land, this lodge sits on the foot hills of Mount Kilimanjaro. Enjoy jaw-dropping views of the famous snow-capped mountain while you lounge by the sparkling outdoor pool.Â
Admire the lodge's traditional East African style - a mix of warm colors, wooden accents, high ceilings, and beautiful cultural artwork. Spend your afternoon enjoying a nature walk, bird watching, or participating in a traditional dance.
When you get hungry, indulge in delicious traditional cuisine at Kibo Restaurant. Enjoy the cozy atmosphere of a traditional African hut while you dine around a central fireplace. Feeling something a little lighter? Head to Mawenzi Terrace, the outdoor dining area, and try some authentic dishes while taking in the scenery. After dinner, unwind with a cocktail at one of the few on-site bars. Head back to your spacious room, sprawl out on your large comfortable bed, and rest up for your next day of adventure.Â
Day 7. Amboseli National Park
Today, enjoy your last full day in Kenya continuing to explore Amboseli National Park. This is the best place to spot elephants up close as they march in a line across the plains. But don't get too close, as elephants are very protective of their young!
Day 8. Depart Kenya
After breakfast, depart back to Nairobi and board your flight home. Scroll through your photos and relive memories that are sure to last a lifetime!Â
