Greece Packing List: What to Pack for Greece

By Kenya Barrett

Greece is a beautiful country filled with beaches, amazing landscapes, and tons of ancient landmarks. With such diverse terrain, you’re probably wondering what to pack in preparation for your Greece vacation.

No worries, read on for some expert tips on what to pack for Greece.

Clothes

Greece is known for its interesting landscapes which range from mountainous terrain and arid regions to white sand beaches and the warm Mediterranean breeze. As such, it’s important to pack an equal amount of light and comfortable clothing. Depending on the season – whether it be summer or winter in Greece – packing appropriately is also advised.

While dense coats are not specifically recommended, bringing a warm windbreaker and non-slip walking shoes are advised when spending time in the mountainous or even city areas. However, packing beach clothing such as swimsuits, sandals, and sunglasses are also appropriate. For example, a trek through Athens may require comfy walking trainers and a light cover up, whereas a day in Santorini or Mykonos could simply require a bathing suit and sundress. Formal wear is not a must, but if you’d like to enjoy a classy night out in the town, then bringing a suit or dress isn’t a bad idea.

Electronics

Since Greece is a European country, you’ll encounter the issue of different electric outlets. To remedy this issue, you can purchase a universal travel adapter that converts the plugs and wattage to match that of Greece. Another great trinket to carry is a key finder — a small device that operates a tracker and generally connects to your smartphone or device. This can help you locate missing electronics, luggage, or something even more important such as a passport. Lastly, packing a portable charger and/or extra batteries for a few devices such as a laptop or camera is ideal.

Travel Documents

With international travel, visitors should always have their passport secured in a safe spot. This can be a passport wallet, anti-theft fanny pack, or security box in the hotel room – just make sure to have a picture of it on your phone. In addition to your passport, it’s smart to have another form of identification such as a state ID or an extra copy of both documents. It’s also a good idea to keep any documents that provide a brief list of your medical history/medications in case of an emergency – most smartphones offer digital versions of this however.

Personal Items

Packing a few personal essentials are always recommended, such as your preferred soaps, moisturizers, and toiletries. Due to the diverse landscapes of Greece, it’s in your best interest to pack a few items that will help with the constant change of atmosphere. Some of which include bug spray, sunscreen, allergy medications, and even pain relievers. Other essential items include a re-usable water bottle or canteen, a travel umbrella, and a day backpack.
