Day 1. Welcome to Rapid City!
You're gonna love it here! When you land, grab your rental car at the airport and drop your bags at your first hotel. There's so much to do here, you won't want to waste a minute.Â
Tonight, you might spend some time in the heart of Rapid City at Main Street Square. No matter what season you visit, there's always something fun happening here!Â
Hotel Alex Johnson is a historic property located just 30 minutes from the iconic Mount Rushmore National Monument. Guests have access to a fitness center and spa, as well as modern room amenities to make them feel at home. On site, there are dining options such as Paddy O'Neill's Irish Pub and Seattle's Best Cafe. For those guests who wish to fit in a round of golf during their vacation, the Executive Golf Course is just a 6 minute drive away.Â
Day 2. Rapid City
Take off to one of the city's nearby attractions. In about an hour, you can reach Custer State Park, the mysterious caves of  Wind Cave National Park, or the sparkling waterfalls of Spearfish Canyon. And of course, don't miss nearby Mount Rushmore - the area's most famous attraction. Â

Day 3. Rapid City - Wall
Set your course for Badlands National Park today! Your drive to your accommodations in Wall will only take about an hour, so you'll have plenty of time to explore.Â
Before you check into your hotel, you may enjoy a scenic drive through the park along Badlands Loop Road. You can make plenty of stops to soak up the scenery at overlooks along the way like Panorama Point, Homestead Overlook, and Yellow Mound Overlook.

Day 4. Wall
If you're traveling with kids under the age of 12, today is a great day for them to earn a Junior Ranger badge! Aspiring Junior Rangers can grab their activity booklet at the Ben Reifel Visitor Center. After they've completed their training, they can bring their completed booklet to a ranger at the visitor center, take the Junior Ranger pledge, then collect their badge!Â

Day 5. Wall
Did you know that Badlands National Park is among the top archaeology and paleontology attractions? Be a paleontologist for a day and set off for a bit of fossil hunting!Â
After, visit the Fossil Preparation Lab (open seasonally). There, you can watch park paleontologists identify, prepare, and catalog fossils for display.Â

A Tip For Your Trip: Please note: fossil hunting is allowed in South Dakota, but there are a few important rules to follow. You can not collect and take home anything you find, and there is strictly no digging allowed.
Day 6. Wall
You might want to take advantage of another day in Wall by exploring the city. Stop by the famous Wall Drug. What started out as a pharmacy offering free ice water to travelers has now become an extravaganza that is part shopping mall, part museum, part arcade, and part pharmacy.Â
While you're here, you can also visit the Crazy Horse Memorial, Porter Sculpture Park, or any of the other must-sees of the area.Â

Day 7. Depart South Dakota
It's time to say goodbye to South Dakota. You'll return your rental car at the airport and board your flight home.Â
