How to Honeymoon Post-Covid

By Rachael Funk

Covid put a lot on hold and, for many people, that included their honeymoon or anniversary trip. If you had to pause plans for your romantic getaway, here's how you can restart the romance.

Consider your options

What’s feasible? Many honeymooners opt for a mini-moon right away, then plan a bigger vacation for later. You can hit the road now with a domestic trip to explore the USA or even take a quick jaunt to Puerto Rico (no passport needed!). If you have your hearts set on an international excursion, book it now while prices are at their lowest.

Did you know? You're not alone!

  • 95% of US couples canceled or postponed their 2020 honeymoon
  • 30% of those couples are taking a local "Mini-moon" before they re-plan their honeymoon
  • 88% of "Mini-moons" AND honeymoons are now booked for the United States

Consider the calendar

When you're picking where to go, weigh the pros and cons of off-season travel. Skipping that peak-season trip might mean bringing along a jacket, but it has plenty of advantages: fewer crowds, less traffic, better photos (refer back to "fewer crowds"), and lower costs. The amazing thing about the USA is that its diverse ecological systems make it perfect to travel year-round no matter which temperature you prefer.

Keep it simple

Though you may be eager to make up for lost time, don’t cram every second of your itinerary with things to do and see. Slow down, take a breath, and take the time to enjoy where you are – and who you’re with. Give yourself room to explore your new priorities.

Take advantage of sales

Check to see if our Flexible Change Plan is included in the package you book. If you have to postpone your trip later, you can! This protection plan allows you to reschedule for any reason with no penalty fees up to 14 days in advance.

Get creative

Until everything's fully functional again, it can be hard to figure out if that romantic bistro is still open or if you'll be able to get into the spa you both love. Be sure to come up with a few surprises to pamper your special someone that won't rely on someone else's hours of operation.

Take a good look at your passport

It may not be the first thing on your mind while the two of you conspire, but don’t forget to check your passport’s expiration date. If you're leaving the USA or coming from somewhere else, some countries require at least 6 months’ validity on your passport. Apply as early as possible; passport processing times are now much longer.
