Northern Lights Tour (RE62)
This tour takes you to see a spectacular phenomenon that can be seen from late August to mid-April. The northern lights, also known as the aurora borealis, are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the Magnetic Pole.
Choosing a guided tour increases your chances of seeing the northern lights in Iceland. A team of experts reviews and studies the weather, locations, and aurora forecast on a daily basis to determine if the odds are in your favor. This tour is weather dependent and sightings are not guaranteed. However, you will experience Icelandic nature during the night, the Milky Way, stars, moon, clouds, and total darkness. Please note that indicated return times can vary. If you don‘t see any northern lights during this tour, you are invited to join the tour again, free of charge, if your schedule allows. Children are welcome on the tour, however, this can be a long and cold night and therefore it may not be suitable for children younger than 6 years old.
Day 2. Reykjavik
Discover some of the best things to do in Reykjavik today by strolling
around the colorful houses and pond of Tjörnin, admiring the dynamic
street art that lines Reykjavik's streets, and taking a picture of the
iconic Sun Voyager sculpture. You should also be sure to check out
Hallgrimskirkja Church. The church is iconic for its intricate
architecture and towering presence. Visiting it is pretty quick and
totally free, though you can pay a fee to climb to the top (which is
about 239 feet tall). Later, enjoy your included Icelandic lava show!
The Icelandic Lava Show, Reykjavik (ILS01) at 16:00
Lava Show, recreates a volcano eruption by superheating real lava up to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit and then pouring it into a showroom full of people. One of the highest rated attractions in Iceland. A one-of-a-kind experience that is both educational and thrilling. LAVA SHOW is the only live lava show in the world, a highly engaging experience that has received multiple awards on entertainment and innovation.
The highlight of the show is when everyone is advised to put on their security goggles and the lava starts pouring into the showroom. The bright orange color as the lava starts flowing into the room is like sunrise and as the lava starts gliding over the ice it starts to bubble and crackle. The most surprising aspect, however, is the intense heat that radiates from the lava and the temperature in the showroom quickly rises. For a few moments, the only thing you want to do is sit there transfixed on the lava, mesmerized by the sensory onslaught as you watch the lava cool in front of your eyes, slowly turning from bright orange to grey to black. It is an experience unlike anything else you have ever experienced.
Soon after the lava flows into the room, the show's host starts playing with the lava, explaining the different aspects of it and what it really was that you just witnessed. As the lava continues to cool down, the host is able to demonstrate some really interesting aspects and wonders of lava and encourages the audience into an interactive Q&A session.
Day 3. Reykjavik
Consider using today to explore the highlights of Iceland's Golden
Circle. The approximately 300 km route showcases some of the most
popular attractions in Iceland including Thingvellir National Park,
Gullfoss Waterfall, Geysir Geothermal Area, and more.
Day 4. Reykjavik
Finish packing and double check that you have everything before you check out of the hotel at the appropriate time. Then, head over to the airport to return home. Don’t forget to wave goodbye to Iceland before you depart!
