Day 1. Welcome to Dublin!
Upon arrival in Dublin, collect your rental car and head to your first destination. Take the journey east for an overnight at the Cabra Castle Hotel. While here you will be able to explore all of the beauty that exists around Cavan.
Visit the medieval town of Carlingford, stop by the historic town of Drogheda or the rural town of Carrickmacross in Monaghan.
From the moment you arrive through the acres of beautifully manicured gardens to this magnificent 19th century 4-star castle hotel in the Cavan countryside, you will feel welcomed and thoroughly spoiled. Set on 100 acres of parklands and gardens, with the magnificent backdrop of Dún a' Rà Forest Park, there is much to explore both indoors and out. Cabra Castle is one of the most unique luxury hotels in Ireland and is also one of the best-known castle wedding venues in Ireland. (Please note: Cabra Castle accommodations are not located within the main castle building).
Built in 1760, this upscale hotel is lavishly decorated with tall ceilings and grand staircases. Guest rooms are designed in a historic fashion with all the modern amenities a traveler needs to stay comfortable including a satellite TV, tea/coffee maker, and more. The Cabra Castle Hotel also has an on-site restaurant serving delicious local cuisine, as well as a bar perfect for relaxing with a drink.
With a sophisticated combination of traditional old-world opulence and contemporary design, Dunboyne Castle Hotel & Spa sets a new precedent and fresh interpretation for hotels around Ireland. As one of the leading 4-star hotels in Ireland, Dunboyne Castle Hotel & Spa features unique attributes that emphasize the beauty of its estate. Standing on 21 acres of mature manicured lawns and gardens, the hotel's most unique attribute is the peaceful oasis it offers guests, while also being located in such close proximity to Dublin's city center and surrounding golf courses.
The hotel is situated on the grounds of a former castle; the original castle was destroyed during the Cromwellian invasion of Ireland. The 18th-century Georgian house that we see today is at the heart of the hotel, blending seamlessly with the stylish, modern bedrooms and restaurant in the contemporary wing. The historic mansion, once home to the Lord of Dunboyne, today serves as one of Ireland's foremost exclusive hotels on Dublin's doorstep.
Its 145 large, comfortable rooms boast free WiFi, air-conditioning, HD TV, and much more. Relax at Seoid, meaning jewel in Irish, the decadent on-site spa. Unwind in the crystal steam room, enjoy an herbal sauna, pamper yourself with a mud treatment, and more. Take a stroll through the lavish garden, then indulge in a delicious meal at the Ivy Restaurant. Feast your eyes on its carefully prepared seasonal menu, then taste the award-winning flavors of the in-house chefs, who've earned 2 AA Rosettes from 2013 to date.
Day 2. Cavan - Ireland Bed & Breakfast
Spend the morning in your luxurious castle surroundings before heading to your first bed and breakfast! We suggest going west and staying in County Sligo, famous for its rugged countryside and literary heritage. Â
Check-in - Ireland Bed and Breakfast
Staying in an Ireland Bed and Breakfast offers travelers the complete flexibility of creating their own itinerary. You must select your accommodations ahead of time. To ensure the best availability, it's recommended that you pre-book your B&Bs as far in advance as possible. Enjoy your choice of accommodations from small towns to quaint villages to countryside manors.
All Irish B&B's pride themselves on providing their guests with a fresh, home-cooked breakfast each morning and quality accommodations that cater to every need. Draw on the local knowledge, personal touch and warm welcome of your Irish hosts. Learn about all the best local restaurants, pubs, shops, attractions and activities. Your hosts specialize in the best services available from golf to walking tours of the area, to adventure breaks and much more.
Why Stay in a B&B?
- Most bed and breakfasts are owned by the B&B operators themselves, who usually live on the premises. It's natural to expect that B&B operators who live in their own B&B's will bring a different perspective to the job.
- At B&B's, "customers" are truly guests, and it shows. The B&B owners will gladly help you find the best restaurant in town, the best pubs, point you to the best tourist attractions and local amenities and much much more. Many B&B's depend on word-of-mouth recommendations.
Combine those two factors and it's easy to see why B&B owners go out of their way to make sure your stay provides some great memories of Ireland.
*B&B check-in is between 3:00pm and 6:00pm..
Day 3. Ireland Bed & Breakfast
From your base in County Sligo, you'll be situated along Ireland's famous Wild Atlantic Way, so take time today to explore points on this coastal route. Embark on a thrilling walk along Downpatrick Head, home to stunning stacked sea cliffs and the ruins of a church founded by none other than Saint Patrick.
Before returning to your hotel, enjoy a stroll and a meal in the charming town of Westport nestled along Clew Bay.
Day 4. Ireland Bed & Breakfast
You might want to gallivant to Galway today! Find a cozy B&B near Ireland's "most Irish city," then explore postcard-worthy Connemara National Park. Head back to the city and stroll through the bustling Latin Quarter, enjoy a pint on High Street, and admire the beautiful Galway Cathedral.Â
You might also want to drive to County Clare and see the iconic Cliffs of Moher!
Day 5. Ireland Bed & Breakfast
Ireland has over 30,000 castles and castle ruins dotted all over the landscape - why not explore a couple today? In County Clare, make a stop at Bunratty Castle, the most complete medieval castle in Ireland. Adjacent to the castle is a 19th-century living village that will make you feel like you've stepped back in time!Â
Near the city of Cork is Blarney Castle, home of the famous (or infamous) Blarney Stone. If you're up for the challenge, pucker up and kiss the stone, said to grant the gift of gab.Â
Day 6. Ireland Bed & Breakfast
Consider staying near the town of Killarney, known as Ireland's adventure capital. Just mere miles from town is Killarney National Park, the first national park in Ireland. From Muckross House to Torc Waterfall, there is so much to see and explore in this beautiful park.
You could also consider driving the Ring of Kerry, a 120-mile tourist route on the Iveragh Peninsula. Over the centuries it has been the inspiration of poets and writers because of its magnificent coastal scenery and rugged countryside.
Day 7. Ireland Bed & Breakfast
Today, consider heading east to County Wicklow, known as the "Garden of Ireland." This part of Ireland is beautifully rugged with mountains and dramatic valleys. Settle into your accommodation, then consider driving to Wicklow Mountains National Park. Park your car and explore the park on foot, where you are bound to encounter many spectacular sights.
Day 8. Ireland Bed & Breakfast
Spend your last day in Ireland exploring its vibrant capital! Start with a stroll through two of Dublin's charming parks: St Stephens Green and Merrion Square. In Merrion Square, say hello to Dublin's famous literary son, Oscar Wilde!
You can then head over to Trinity College, Ireland's oldest university that is home to the illuminated Book of Kells. Don't miss walking through the stunning Long Room library, an absolute architectural marvel.
From there, learn all about Ireland's favorite beer at the Guinness Storehouse. Through several interactive exhibits, you not only learn how to pour the perfect pint, but you will also uncover the secrets of Ireland's famous stout that's been the stuff of legend for over 250 years. End an exciting day of sightseeing with a pint!
