Day 2. Reykjavik
Today you will enjoy some of the best things to do in
Reykjavik including seeing Puffins and experiencing the Sky Lagoon, a
new geothermal spa that offers an array of therapeutic treatments.
Puffin Express (WH04) at 9:30am
The Puffin Express adventure starts at the Old Harbour of Reykjavík and only takes one hour. Lundey and Akurey are two small islands located in the Reykjavík bay area, only 15 minutes away from Reykjavík‘s Old Harbor, where the tour departs. The islands are covered with small hills and slopes and both are well known for their colorful birdlife. The island‘s shores are rocky but the boats are specially designed to take you as close to the islands as possible due to the shallow draft. Upon arriving at the islands, the engines are turned off so passengers can observe the birds and the beautiful surroundings. Licensed guides tell you all about the Puffins and other birds of interest that are often seen on the Puffin watching tours. Other birds spotted include Northern Fulmars, Gulls, Arctic Terns, and Black Guillemots.
Sky Lagoon (SL01) at 1:00 PM
Sky Lagoon is a brand new thermal spa inspired by Icelandic nature & culture. Located only few minutes from downtown Reykjavik, this unique experience is about that Icelandic feeling of warmth and wonder. Experience rejuvenation and inspiration at the edge of the world.
The seven-step ritual is based on the traditions of Icelandic bathing culture and is rooted in wellness, wholeness and wonder. (1. Slow Down at the Lagoon > 2. Cool Down at the Cold Plunge > 3. Relax in the Sauna > 4. Refresh with Cold Mist > 5. Reinvigorate with the Sky Scrub > 6. Steam Room > 7. Shower and Relax in the lagoon).
Sky Lagoon is located at Kársnes Harbour, Kópavogur - approximately a 10-15 minute drive from downtown Reykjavik.
Day 3. Reykjavik
Discover the south coast of Iceland today with your included South Shore Adventure!
South Shore Adventure (RE15)
This South Shore Adventure tour is ideal for nature lovers of all kinds. You'll travel along the south coast of Iceland, one of the country’s most scenic regions, as far as Vík, a charming village surrounded by high beautiful bird cliffs. South Iceland is special in that it is one of the flattest regions on the island. As a result, nearly all grain farming in Iceland is done there. The high mountains to the north, shield the area from the harshest northern winds.
Among the stops on this tour are the gorgeous Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Seljalandsfoss is part of the Seljalandsá river, which has its origins in Eyjafjallajökull glacier. What makes Seljalandsfoss so famous and interesting is that you can walk behind it. We recommend you bring either a raincoat or a waterproof coat along if you want to stroll behind it which we of course highly recommend. Skógafoss, another famous Icelandic waterfall, is the starting point of the Fimmvörðuháls walk over to Þórsmörk. This most picturesque of all waterfalls is something of a film star, having been used as a backdrop in films such as Thor: The Dark World and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Next is a stop at Reynisfjara black sand beach, with the Reynisdrangar rock formations and columnar basalt. It is one of the most spectacular beaches in Iceland but can be quite dangerous due to powerful sneaker waves, and we kindly ask our guests not to go too close to the ocean and follow all guidelines. Last is a stop by Sólheimajökull glacier and walk up to a small lake that has formed in front of the retreating glacier.
Day 4. Reykjavik
Enjoy a full day of wonders with you included Golden Circle & Fontana Wellness (Geothermal Baths) Tour!
Golden Circle & Fontana Wellness (SRE74)
This amazing day tour takes you around the Golden Circle to see three of Iceland’s highlights: Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir geothermal area and Thingvellir National Park, before heading to Fontana’s natural steam baths. The original sauna was built in the 1920s and was little more than a shack with two compartments, built above the hot spring that bubbles and gurgles below the ground. Today, a modern complex welcomes you to relax with various hot tubs and steam baths naturally heated by Icelandic hot springs.
Upon arrival in Fontana, you will take a short walk with a local person to a nearby natural hot spring which is used as a local natural bakery for the village. You will learn the method of baking a loaf of bread in a hot spring and watch while they dig up a typical Icelandic rye bread which has been slowly baked in the hot spring. Before dipping into the Fontana hot tubs and enjoying the natural steam baths, you will be offered a tasting of the rye bread. At Fontana you can have drinks while relaxing in the hot spring water and enjoying the spectacular view.
Day 5. Reykjavik
Explore at leisure this morning, perhaps dining in the area and exploring more of Reykjavik. Take a selfie with the iconic Hallgrímskirkja Church, simply stroll around to admire the city's street art, and marvel at the beauty of Tjörnin pond in the city center. Later, enjoy your once-in-a-lifetime experience of an Icelandic Lava Show!
The Icelandic Lava Show, Reykjavik (ILS01) at 16:00
Lava Show, recreates a volcano eruption by superheating real lava up to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit and then pouring it into a showroom full of people. One of the highest rated attractions in Iceland. A one-of-a-kind experience that is both educational and thrilling. LAVA SHOW is the only live lava show in the world, a highly engaging experience that has received multiple awards on entertainment and innovation.
The highlight of the show is when everyone is advised to put on their security goggles and the lava starts pouring into the showroom. The bright orange color as the lava starts flowing into the room is like sunrise and as the lava starts gliding over the ice it starts to bubble and crackle. The most surprising aspect, however, is the intense heat that radiates from the lava and the temperature in the showroom quickly rises. For a few moments, the only thing you want to do is sit there transfixed on the lava, mesmerized by the sensory onslaught as you watch the lava cool in front of your eyes, slowly turning from bright orange to grey to black. It is an experience unlike anything else you have ever experienced.
Soon after the lava flows into the room, the show's host starts playing with the lava, explaining the different aspects of it and what it really was that you just witnessed. As the lava continues to cool down, the host is able to demonstrate some really interesting aspects and wonders of lava and encourages the audience into an interactive Q&A session.
Day 6. Reykjavik
Today, see an incredibly unique man-made Ice Cave in Iceland with your included Langjokull Ice Cave Experience Tour. Later, have dinner at a local restaurant before getting ready for your departure tomorrow.
Langjokull Ice Cave Experience (SRE96)
Visit a unique and remote man-made Ice Cave in Langjökull, one of Iceland's largest and most spectacular glaciers. You begin the tour by bus from BSÍ Bus Terminal and drive to the lush Húsafell area with stops at Europe's most powerful hot spring Deildartunguhver and the beautiful Hraunfossar lava waterfalls. After a lunch break in Húsafell, we head on up to Langjökull, partly in a specially modified glacier vehicle. It will take us almost to the top of the glacier, where we enter the magnificent cave.
Before you realize, you find yourself standing on top of a vast ice-cap, ready to enter the glacier and explore its icy underworld. The glacier guide will take you on an amazing journey, deep within the glacier where you can see the stunning blue-hued ice. Going into the glacier is an unforgettable trip which takes place in one of the world's greatest wilderness. Imagine standing on an ice cap reaching 200 metres below your feet!
Day 7. Depart Reykjavik
This bucket list Iceland vacation has sadly come to an end. Take your transfer to the airport, board your flight home, and reminisce on memories of this unforgettable getaway.
